Mahindra to roll out more affordable XUV5OO

This year’s union budget saw an increase in excise duty for some vehicles. The vehicles which had an engine of more than 1.5 litre capacity, length greater than 4 meters and ground clearance of over 170mm were brought under a higher excise duty net. Many vehicles which were earlier liable for a excise duty of 27% now faced an additional 3%. It was reported that this increase in price was hitting the sales of many Mahindra Cars including XUV500, Bolero and Scorpio. Mahindra & Mahindra came up with an idea to reduce the ground clearance so as to get benefits in excise duty. Mahindra XUV 500 now has a ground clearance of 160mm which is a whopping 40mm less than the previous model.

Mahindra XUV 500 price for the new version will see a decrease in the range of 27000 for the basic W6 model to 33000 INR. After this decrease, buyers can lay their hands on the SUV by paying the pre-budget prices. Mahindra XUV 500 features have not been changed much. A stone guard has been added to the underside of the vehicle to protect the engine from the bumpy roads and rough terrains. The vehicle now has a low ground clearance of just 160mm which is almost 10mm less than the Maruti Swift. The company believes this will not affect the SUV image of the vehicle. This vehicle has many other features to take it comfortably through rough terrains. The intelligent all wheel drive technology ensures the vehicle does not go out of control in difficult roads. The single shell construction gives it a good power to weight ratio and great stability. The vehicle can churn out a maximum power of 140 bhp at a low speed of 3750 rpm.

This makes it easy to handle the vehicle in all conditions. It can output a peak torque of 330Nm. This power from the 2.2 litre mHawk diesel engine is transferred to the wheels through a six speed manual transmission system. Mahindra XUV 500 pictures show an aggressive off roader with a daring front grille and bold headlamps. The vehicle has been designed to resemble some features of cheetah. The door handles are designed like paw handles. The front grille is designed to resemble a jaw of the cheetah. The vehicle is available in seven colour choices. The vehicle is equipped with a variety of safety features including six air bags, ABS and ESP. The brake system features disc brakes for all wheels.
