Iphone in India

Darkness behind the colours of iPhone in India. Telecom operator Vodafone will offer the much awaited iPhone in India. The telecom giant has signed an agreement with Apple to sell the iPhone in ten of its markets around the globe. Apple iPhone is creating waves across the globe and the Time magazine has named the iphone as the invention of the year of 2007.But it has some darker side too. Users dont spend much on Value Added Services I was just comparing the various mobile markets in the world where the iPhone has been introduced - USA, UK,Germany and France. These markets are places where purchasing power is more. In this context Im referring to the amount of cash the users burn on their mobile phones and related services such as ringtones, songs etc. We Indians spend a lot on phones for sure but mainly for calls and messages nothing more. Operator Revenue Sharing wont work in India Apple wants a cut of the revenue the operators make out of an iPhone user. This might not not work at all in a country like India where there are so many operators. SMS is the hottest thing in India. SMS is the hottest mobile service in india and the iphone sux at it and atleast when I tried the iPhone i was not comfortable with the touchscreen keypad. I will be far more comfortable typing on a Nokia 1100 or a Motorola lowend phone. Mobile Web is not big in India but its Growing. Mobile web usage is still minimum in India. iPhone Web Apps is a totally new area and mobile internet is the backbone for these iphone apps which are heavily data driven. If Apple can force the Operators like Airtel and Vodafone to bring out unlimited GPRS plans then things might change. Locked Handset model wont work in India. Its pretty common in the USA for AT&T to release the latest mobile phone locked to its network. But I doubt whether this model will work in india. As a mobile user I want to have the freedom to change my operator / cell company as I wish. Think I change my house and Airtel has poor coverage in that area and BSNL has better coverage. I dont want to change my handset for a change for a phone number change. Bluetooth File Transfers won't work. Bluetooth file transfers are very popular in India, atleast amongst youth. iPhone does not let you share files over Bluetooth. Its got bluetooth but only for pairing with a Bluetooth Headset. No Video Recording. Video recording on a mobile phone is so much fun. The phone does have a camera but no video recording. Are you listening apple ?

What to do when your phone gets wet?

If you ever accidently spill liquid on your mobile, or worse still, drop it into a pool of water, the instinctive thing you'll do is to try to turn it on to see if your phone still works. However, that may also be the worst thing you can do as powering on your phone while it's still wet may short-circuit and damage the components. To maximize the chances of saving your phone, what you should do is take out the battery immediately and dry it as best you can. This is because even though a phone is deactivated, the connected battery may carry small currents which will harm the phone and create more corrosion. One way of drying the phone is to use a hair dryer. Be careful not to use so high a temperature as to overheat components of your phone. Additionally, do not attempt to open up your phone without professional help. The longer you leave your phone damp, the less chances of getting your handset back in working order. We recommend you quickly get your phone to a service center as soon as possible to have it seen to. If you're always in an environment where you risk getting your phone wet, or are so clumsy that you constantly spill liquid on your mobile, the best solution is to consider a water-resistant phone such as the Ericsson R310s or Siemens M35i. you may also wish to see: Things you never knew your cell phone could do?

Google's New Favicon

This is one of the smaller changes to Google – at least if measured in pixels! Google changed their “favicon.ico”, the 16x16 pixels image file that usually shows in the browser address bar or in bookmarks. Now Google has a new favicon. A favicon is a small image that is generally used to reflect the identity of a web site. You can find it in the address bar, in your browser's tabs, in the list of bookmarks or in some feed readers like Bloglines. You can find this new favicon at Its 16x16 pixels image and its a standard size for favicon. The old icon used a square with red, green and blue edges, wrapping an upper-case “G”. The new logo is a bit more open, showing just the lower-case blue “g” from the Google logo, without borders, and a bit of shadow. To see this favicon, visit (or any Google Product), if you are still saw previous favicon than empty your browser cache and reload the page.
